NTT and MediaMarkt sign agreement to create the metaverse of MediaMarkt: MetaMarkt

The launch is expected in early 2022 and will reinforce MediaMarkt’s leadership in retail through innovation and technology.

MediaMarkt, a top company in consumer electronics in Spain and Europe, and our parent company NTT have signed a collaboration agreement to create the virtual world of MediaMarkt, the “MetaMarkt”. The action is part of a long-term strategy and it will be comprised of different spaces and virtual experiences developed by Growthland, and targeted at youngsters through their main reference channels.

With the support of NTT as a global leader in technology and innovation, this new action aligns with MediaMarkt’s customer-centric strategy, as well as with its shift towards a more experiential model. A bet for a differential value proposition to fulfil the new customer demands, and to generate new opportunities for its clients, brands and technological partners, through the combination of their physical stores and virtual channels.

“As part of our firm commitment to placing our customers at the centre of all our decisions, we need to be present wherever they are. Hence,  this alliance with NTT marks a milestone for us as a company that seeks to attract younger audiences, and be at the forefront of innovation and technology” says Alberto Álvarez Ayuso, General Managing Director of MediaMarkt Iberia. Carrying out this project with a global leader in digital transformation like NTT is vital for us, as we can rely on the maximum guarantees in our entry into the virtual world” he adds.

About Metamarkt

“MetaMarkt” is the first step to entering into an increasingly popular universe among users under 35. This is demonstrated by the 350 million users of the popular video game ‘Fortnite’, and the more than 9 million content creators that stream on ‘Twitch’. The metaverse’s success has led technological giants to commit to this digital universe. Already a key element inside their future strategies.

“The metaverse is revolutionizing how brands and retailers connect with new publics through experiences and virtual contents” subscribes Marc Alba, Senior Vice President of NTT, CEO and President of NTT Disruption. “MediaMarkt opens the doorway to the metaverse in the consumer electronics industry, and leads the convergence between the physical and the digital, the entertainment and the sales process”

“MetaMarkt” is expected to be launched in early 2022 and will allow both companies to generate new communication environments with clients, as well as new business opportunities.
